FOUR OVER-HYPED BEAUTY PRODUCTS WORTH BUYING VS. BEAUTY PRODUCTS THAT AREN’T

We’re about to spill the tea on expensive AF beauty products you NEED in your collection, vs. the products you shouldn’t take a chance on. (Ie. the Dior foundation you will be returning to Sephora in a week…)

#1 Moisturizers

NOT WORTH IT: Crème de la Mer Moisturizing Cream
Price CAD $113.32 (0.5oz)

First of all, the story alone behind this product is controversial and kind of amazing. The founder of La Mer, an aerospace physicist, was involved in a serious science lab fire in the 1950’s while working on a stabilizer for a rocket. He suffered some extensive burns to his face and turned his energy from missiles to moisturizers. He spent the next decade working with a rare bacteria, Macrocystis pyrifera, a form of sea kelp found in the ocean near his California home, until he finally created a heavenly cream that healed his burns and transformed his skin from disaster to masterpiece. Unfortunately, the reviews are far from magical, the price is absurd and the ingredients are almost identical to moisturizers on the market for a quarter of the price. (mineral oil, multiple silicones, and lanolin alcohol).

WORTH IT:  Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream
Price: CAD $36.00 (1.7oz)

If you’re looking for an amazing moisturizer to keep your skin moisturized and glowing, look no further than Khiel’s ultra facial moisturizer. This affordable wonder cream has a serious celebrity following including A-list Hollywood Star Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, blogger Olivia Palermo, and of course, Kim Kardashian’s makeup guru, Mario Dedivanovic — a.k.a. Makeup by Mario.

#2 Blush

NOT WORTH IT: Nars “Orgasm” Blush
Price: CAD $38.00

Yes, it’s a beautiful peachy shade with a hint of shimmer. No denying that! But it kinda makes you wonder if the hype around this product is solely because of the racy name. There are thousands of peach based blushes on the market but this one has the most notatiraty. I personally don’t think it’s worth over $40.00 with tax!

WORTH IT: M.A.C. Springsheen Blush
Cost: CAD $27.00

Still tipping the pricier scale, but a bit more affordable with tons of positive makeup guru reviews, a beautiful peach shade and a matte finish to ensure long length wear throughout your crazy busy day.

#3 Mascara’s

NOT WORTH IT: Dior Dior show Mascara
Price: CAD $36.00

You’ll see this baby advertised on the walls at Sephora for a pretty penny.
Various customers mentioned this mascara was a waste of money as they found it “always dried out so fast, and for that price.. It shouldn’t” Can I get an amen?

WORTH IT: Benefit Cosmetics
They’re Real! Mascara
Price: CAD $16.00

One word: amazing. This mascara is worth every penny and has thousands of positive reviews online. I’ve tested this mascara at Sephora and instantly noticed my lashes appeared thicker, longer and the brush helped to separate my lashes and not leave them clumpy and thick looking. Definitely worth it.

#4 Foundation
Expensive, but WORTH IT: Chanel

Cost: CAD $67.00

Okay, I’m cheating here – I’m supposed to say it’s expensive and don’t buy it. But i’m pretty passionate about this formula. I’ve always been a brand whore for concealers, and spent a few years dabbling only in YSL. One day, as I was skimming through an issue of Glamour magazine, I stumbled upon a review of this foundation. I was instantly sold, it sounded like a miracle foundation. And to be honest, it is. It smells fabulous, covers any blemishes or discoloration superbly and matches skin tones to a T. This is a staple in my makeup bag.
